Starting My 2013 RightAs I am writing this post, it is technically almost the end of January. But, it is never too late to document how I started my 2013 and why I think this will be an awesome year.
Every now and then I get this little kick of inspiration and motivation to do things and make them happen. Last December, I started reading the book "Work The System" by Sam Carpenter. The book is quite long. But, to summarize what I got from it, I have learned that in order to become a better person, team or company (whichever applies), I need to see myself or the organization from an external point of view. Once that principle sinks in, it will allow me to treat things objectively and improve the things (or the set system) as I need to.
Surprisingly, I think I've internalized the principle. This year 2013, I decided to "work my system." I had to evaluate almost every aspect of my life and decided to improve it slowly and in a realistic way. It took me quite a while to do it. I am a person who does a lot of things and I had to list them one by one to know where can I improve.
From there, I decided to set goals this year and mapped out a step by step plan on how I will be able to achieve them. Think of it as a systematic and detailed new year's resolution maybe? Doing it was very interesting. I enjoyed it and my girlfriend was very supportive too.
It has been around 3 weeks since the start of the year and I am already amazed of how this turned out. As early as now, I have already ticked off some of those goals I have set. Maybe Sam Carpenter was right after all.
My year is just getting started and it is already awesome. I am definitely looking forward to a great year ahead. The plans I have set are already exciting me. Bring it on 2013! This will be the best year so far.
